Wednesday have been awarded a home tie in the first round of the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy after being drawn against League One rivals Notts County.

The draw for the opening round of the lower league competition was drawn this morning on Sky Sports’ Soccer AM programme – and will be for the remainder of the competition.

The Owls’ clash against the Magpies at Hillsborough will take place in the week commencing Monday, August 30.

Wednesday were in the Northern Section – East of the competition, meaning they could only be up against one of seven clubs, including South Yorkshire rivals Rotherham United.

They missed out on a ‘bye’ into the second round.

It’s a case of ‘reality bites’ for Wednesdayites as they enter the competition for the first time since Paul Sturrock’s reign as manager, last time they were in the third tier of English football.

Bring it on…
