Wednesday boss Brian Laws is hoping to make it a Sodje double before the transfer deadline after targeting Port Vale hitman Akpo Sodje to bolster his attacking options.

The Owls are already awaiting a decision from reading defender Sam Sodje after agreeing a fee and personal terms with the former Brentford centre-back at the start of last season.

And now Laws is hoping for some brotherly love to boost his squad after a poor start to the new season after having an offer of around £250,000 turned down for Sam’s goalscoring brother, Akpo.

Vale are hoping to hold out for an improved offer from Wednesday while Laws is thought to be preparing a fresh raid for the 26-year-old after failing in a number of bids to bring new attacking options to Hillsborough.

Akpo bagged 16 goals for Vale last season and also picked up the club’s player of the year award from adoring fans, depsite strike partner Leon Constantine bagging an impressive 26 goals last term.

And Vale could well be set to cash in on him sooner rather than later with the striker out of contract at Vale next summer.

The Owls are also reported to be chasing Ipswich and former Port Vale midfielder George O’Callaghan ahead of Friday’s transfer deadline.

Laws has made it clear he wants to strengthen his squad all over the pitch and Cork-born O’Callaghan could be the man he chooses to bolster his midfield options.
