Former Wednesday defender and summer target Eddie Nolan has agreed to join Scunthorpe United on an initial six-month loan deal.

The Republic of Ireland international had spent the end of last season on loan at Wednesday from Preston North End.

And he was thought to be a target for Owls boss Alan Irvine, who took the player to Deepdale during his time as manager of the club.

But Nolan has today joined Championship side Scunthorpe United on a six-month loan deal after being deemed surplus to requirements under North End boss Darren Ferguson.

Irvine was thought to be chasing Nolan to become an Owl for the 2010-11 campaign before signing Jon Otsemobor on a free transfer.

Nolan made 14 appearances in the famous blue and white stripes, scoring one goal in the process.
