Wednesday are trying to secure the services of Derby County goalkeeper Stephen Bywater on an emergency loan deal, according to reports.

Owls boss Gary Megson is keen to bring in an experienced stopper following a knee injury to regular number one Nicky Weaver, which is expected to keep him sidelined for a number of months.

Richard O’Donnell, relatively inexperienced compared to Weaver and 30-year-old Bywater, has played between the sticks for Wednesday in recent matches.

But Megson is eager to add some more experience in light of recent defensive performances, and is looking towards Bywater to plug the gap, according to the Sheffield Star.

Bywater spent the end of last season on loan at Championship side Cardiff City and the Rams would be expected to allow the stopper to go out for regular first team games again.
