Wednesday boss Brian Laws has revealed that he has tabled a bid for an undisclosed striker and is awaiting a response as he looks to bolster his squad ahead of the new season.

Wednesday have already missed out on former Scunthorpe striker Billy Sharp, who decided on a move to boyhood heroes Sheffield United this week, and it looks like they’ll also be missing out on former loanee Kenwyne Jones who has been slapped with a ‘hands off’ tag by Southampton boss George Burley.

But the Wednesday gaffer has been busy looking elsewhere as he looks to add that elusive striker to his books earlier rather than later.

A number of rumours have been doing the rounds on internet message boards including Vital Sheffield Wednesday, with John Hartson, Paul Dickov and Anthony Le Tallac some of the names linked with a summer move to S6.

But Laws has also revealed earlier in the week that he has been looking overseas to find his star hitman.

‘We’ve been looking globally and been looking at one or two, as I say we’ve missed out, and that’s not just on Billy, we’ve missed out on other players as well,’ Laws told BBC Radio Sheffield.

‘When you’re looking for a player, in particular strikers, everybody’s looking at them. Those that are spending money are looking at the same ones we are.

‘So we’re always under pressure and constant threat from other teams. We’re not gonna burn our bridges and put everything in one basket, we’ve got to be very careful. When was the last time the club spent that kind of money?’

So at the moment it looks as though it;s anyones guess as to who the Owls new striker will be, but it finally looks as though it could be happening sooner rather than later.
