Wednesday’s transfer deadline day highlight was the signing of former Real Madrid and Everton midfielder Royston Drenthe.

The 27-year-old attacker has penned a loan deal until January from Reading and was the Owls’ only further addition on transfer deadline day.

The signing came out of the blue with no local or national media organisations linking Wednesday with the midfielder’s services before the deal was announced.

He will add some flair to Stuart Gray’s squad and arrives in South Yorkshire with the experience of having played for Spanish giants Real Madrid as well as Dutch club Feyenoord and Premier League side Everton.

He moved to Russian club Alania Vladikavkaz before moving back to England to sign for Reading but the Royals currently do not see him as part of their plans and have let the Owls snap-up the Dutchman on loan.

Drenthe could make his Owls debut in the next Championship match against Bolton Wanderers on September 13.
