Wednesday have completed their eighth signing of the summer by securing the services of free agent Clinton Morrison on a two-year contract.

The 31-year-old, released from his contract at Coventry City at the end of last season, is arguably Wednesday’s biggest signing this pre-season.

Crystal Palace and Leeds United were also linked with the Republic of Ireland international, but the Owls have swooped to get their man.

Morrison will take the number 30 shirt for the forthcoming npower League One campaign and will bolster the Owls’ striker ranks – which already includes summer arrivals Neil Mellor and Paul Heffernan, as well as Marcus Tudgay and Jermaine Johnson.

The news has been met with delight by the majority of Wednesdayites, although some believe it could see the end of Tudgay’s time at Hillsborough.

Morrison started his career with Palace before securing a big-money move to Birmingham.

A move back to Selhurst Park followed before he moved to the Sky Blues – where he finished last season.

Morrison is set to get his first Wednesday outing when the Owls travel to Grimsby Town for a pre-season friendly this Saturday.
