Wednesday boss Brian Laws is set for a trip boost – and it could get better – as he prepares for this Saturday’s vital Championship clash with Stoke City.

The Owls have been hampered with a huge injury list in recent weeks but the Owls gaffer is set to welcome back a trio of his players for the trip to the Britannia Stadium on Saturday to give him a much-welcome boost.

Richard Wood, Steve Watson, and Tommy Spurr have all returned to full training following niggling knocks and are all expected to be in Laws’ squad of 16 for the weekend should they come through training unscathed.

The trio were all missing from the Owls’ disappointing 2-0 defeat at home to Leicester City last time out, a match which ranked among the worst performances at S6 in recent seasons, and will bolster to the squad for a tough trip to one of the form teams of the division in Stoke.

And Laws could welcome further players back to his squad with Frank Simek and Wade Small both expected to return to full training next week after picking up knocks, and the duo should be available for the weekend all being well.

Striker Akpo Sodje should also be fit and ready for action on Saturday after picking up a slight knock in a reserve clash with Hull City last week.

‘With a few days rest and ice treatment, plus some work with the physio, I should be fine,’ the former Port Vale hitman told the official SWFC website.

‘I really need time on the pitch, which is what I got from our last two games. Every time I’ve played since I signed here, I’ve seen an improvement in my game.’
