Season ticket sales of ‘around 9,000’ so far for Wednesday next season have been encouraging for Owls chairman Milan Mandaric.

Mandaric revealed the figures today and the sales come after an extremely below-par season at Hillsborough in which the Owls are set to finish closer to the League One relegation zone than the play-offs.

The deadline for discounted tickets has passed but sales will gradually increase over the close season, and the Owls are heading for a respectable figure for the start of the next campaign.

‘We have sold around 9,000,’ Mandaric told the Sheffield Star.

‘I am very pleased to have that many signed up for next year. It is encouraging for the club and for myself. Now we have to do our jobs and give them something to cheer about.’
