Wednesday have played down talk of former Everton shareholder Paul Gregg showing an interest in investing in the Hillsborough club.

The multi-millionaire has been hotly linked with investing in the Owls since club chairman Dave Allen announced someone previously invovled in a Premiership club was taking an interest in Wednesday.

But officials from Hillsborough have played down talk linking the former Apollo Leisure owner with the boardroom at S6.

An Owls spokesperson told the Sheffield Star: ‘The speculation is incorrect. I have spoken to the chief executive and he assures me there is nothing in it whatsoever.’

Gregg sold his £7m shares in the Goodison Park club last November after a fall-out with Everton chairman Bill Kenwright – and has been linked with a number of clubs since his departure from Merseyside.

He is among a number of parties rumoured to be interested in a possible takeover of the club with Norwegian businessman Berger Larsson and an un-named Chinese businessman also said to be among the interested parties.

Owls chairman Dave Allen has revealed he hopes things will be resolved by the start of next season.
