Wednesday boss Brian Laws has revealed to BBC Radio Sheffield that the Owls have been allowed permission to open talks with a Premiership striker.

Laws has made a new number nine at Hillsborough his main priority for the close season but has failed to bring a number of his targets to S6, including Billy Sharp, Grzegorz Rasiak, Patrick Kluivert and Kenwyne Jones.

But the Owls boss is now hopeful of getting the nod from a mystery Premiership striker – who Laws wouldn’t comment on – to make his squad complete for the start of the new season next Saturday.

The Owls supremo has already travelled abroad this week to see a Champions League striker in action, while Nantes striker Dennis Oliech was set to arrive in S6 with a trial according the player’s agent.

Laws has reportedly put aside £2 million to spend on his hitman, and will be hoping discussions go well to enable the new man to arrive at Middlewood Road ahead of the Owls’ opening day clash at Ipswich Town next Saturday.
