As was rumoured at the time, Lee Bullen confirmed that he turned down an offer of a move to Inverness Caledonian at the end of the transfer window.

Our deadline day roundup speculated Caley boss Craig Brewster had made a move for the Owls club captain, but Bullen told the official web site ‘I feel I still have a role to play here. I love it here and, despite having ups and downs in my time here, the positives have outweighed any negatives.’

Wednesday form player Frank Simek was left out of the squad that lost to Brazil on Sunday. Simek didn’t even make the bench: the Americans gave a good account of themselves, and were perhaps unlucky to eventually go down 4-2 in the friendly match. Message to Bob Bradley: put Frankie in the team next time!

The Owls have been linked with a loan move for Wigan’s Fitz Hall, allegedly in competition with Coventry and Norwich for the defender’s services.

And finally… preliminary reports posted on the Owls official website indicate a net profit of around £1.5 million for the last full financial year which, if confirmed, will be the best performance since 1995. Player trading had a ‘significant impact’ on the results, the high profile departures of Madjid Bougherra and Chris Brunt presumably the main source of income. £2m will be diverted from the incoming funds for debt reduction. No AGM has yet been set and it will be a good few weeks before the report and accounts are finalised and published for shareholders. We’ll keep you updated.
