Wednesday loanee Eddie Nolan has been named in the Republic of Ireland squad for a training camp in Dublin next month.

The defender, who is on loan at Hillsborough from Preston North End, is part of a youthful 23-man squad named by boss Giovanni Trapattoni for the camp.

It means he’ll be in with a shot of impressing the Italian ahead of friendly dates with Paraguay and Algeria at the end of May.

Nolan fell out of favour with Preston boss Darren Ferguson at Deepdale and Owls boss Alan Irvine acted quickly to secure his loan services on a loan deal until the end of the season.

And that could well turn into a permanent deal come the end of the season should all parties come to an agreement.

The Waterford-born player has already enjoyed three international caps at senior level.

Full squad: Keiren Westwood (Coventry), Joe Murphy (Scunthorpe), Brian Murphy (Ipswich), Stephen Kelly (Fulham), Eddie Nolan (Wednesday), Paul McShane (Hull), Shane Duffy (Everton), Kevin Foley (Wolves), Stephen Ward (Wolves), Marc Wilson (Portsmouth), Darren O’Dea (Reading), Keith Treacy (Preston), Darron Gibson (Manchester United), Andy Keogh (Wolves), James McCarthy (Wigan), Liam Lawrence (Stoke City), David Meyler (Sunderland), Keith Fahey (Birmingham), Paul Green (Derby), Caleb Folan (Hull), Leon Best (Newcastle), Shane Long (Reading), Anthony Stokes (Hibernian).
