Wednesday have been linked with the loan signing of Sunderland’s hot propsect Connor Wickham.

Owls boss Dave Jones is understood to be keen on bolstering his attacking options to help Wednesday out of their current rut and Wickham is way down the pecking order at the Stadium of Light.

The emergency loan window closes later this month and Jones is set to allow Gary Madine go out on-loan to League One side Swindon Town, despite playing and scoring in the Owls’ 3-1 loss at Middlesbrough on Friday, and bring another man in – reported to be Wickham.

The 19-year-old burst onto the scene with Ipswich Town and Sunderland forked out £8 million for his services in 2011 but he’s yet to make a big impression on Wearside and has yet to feature this season.

A loan move away from the Black Cats would be beneficial for Wickham in terms of first-team opportunities and Wednesday are understood to be one of a number of Championship clubs trying to secure his services.
