Wednesday have been linked with a loan move for Arsenal’s highly-rated Spanish defender Ignasi Miquel in the January transfer window.

Owls boss Dave Jones is keen to bolster his ranks, especially in defence, this month and has targeted the 20-year-old Barcelona-born Gunner to do just that, according to reports.

Miquel is a centre-back who can also play at left-back and his arrival could come in the nick of time, with Miguel Llera’s agent revealing he expects the 33-year-old defender to leave Hillsborough before the end of the month.

Miquel is highly-rated at the Emirates Stadium and has made two appearances for the Premier League side this season, both coming in the Capital One Cup wins over Reading and Coventry City. He also has experience in the Premier League and Champions League last season.

Miquel was born in Barcelona and spent a number of years coming through the famous La Masia youth set-up with the Catalan club before moving to Spanish side Cornella and winning selection for Spain’s U16s and U19s side.

A loan move away from the Emirates could suit all parties but Wednesday are not the only club understood to be interested in him, with Ipswich Town also linked with a move for the youngster.
