Wednesday Ladies bounced back with a 1-1 draw against their Aston Villa counterparts in their first home league match of the season at the weekend.

After last week’s disappointing defeat at Manchester City, the Owls Ladies team hit some form which saw them enjoy an impressive season in the stalemate against Villa at Worksop.

Wednesday made a sloppy start and if it wasn’t for goalkeeper Danni Maslin Villa would have taken an early lead thanks to their big spells of possession.

The Owls’ number one was in top form, but it was a soft goal that Wednesday conceded to give their Midlands rivals the deserved first-half advantage.

But it was the proverbial game of two halves as Wednesday came out a totally different-looking team in the second half, and it wasn’t long before the equaliser came.

Emily Scott enjoyed a superb second-half showing and it was her play that allowed Tanya Rich to grab the equaliser five minutes after the restart.

In contrast to the first half, Wednesday were dominating and Rich had a good chance to give Wednesday all the spoils late in the second half, only for the Villa defence to hold firm.

Wednesday: Maslin, Sherwood, Hobson, Sharp, Severns, Scott, De Silva, Lee (Donohoe 75), Barker (Jepson 53), Danby, Rich

ubs not used: Windle, Corry, Eyre.
