Former Owls player and manager Chris Turner is fronting a consortium that is closing in on a deal to buy Wednesday, according to reports today.

The Sheffield Star is reporting that Turner is heading a group that could be ‘days away’ from completing a deal to takeover at Hillsborough and turn the fortunes of the debt-ridden club around.

A pinch of salt will need to be taken by most Owls fans, with too many false dawns so far turning most Wednesdayites into cynics when it comes to takeover talk.

But the links with Turner and his consortium, which could include boxing promoter Dennis Hobson, local businessman Spencer Fearn, David Blunkett and Paul Potts, have some substance following his shock deprature as boss at Hartlepool United.

Turner is thought to be heading the takeover on behalf of an international oil company.

And talks are understood to have been on-going for the last few weeks, with no comments from any of the parties involved.

Owls fans won’t be getting excited just yet, but it’s a little light at the end of a very long tunnel following a few weeks of worry at S6.
