Wednesday boss Gary Megson has confirmed the club is in talks with former Newcastle United and Portsmouth forward Lomana Lualua.

Lualua is a free agent after leaving Cypriot club Omonia and Wednesday, who want to bolster their attacking threat, are keen on his signature.

The 30-year-old attended the Owls’ 3-2 victory over Scunthorpe United in League One at Hillsborough on Saturday and discussions between the player and the club are on-going.

‘We’re just having talks with him to see if we can come to an agreement. That’s as far as it’s gone,’ Megson told the Sheffield Star.

‘Milan [Mandaric] knows him from his time at Portsmouth. We’re seeing if we can agree something that suits both parties but that hasn’t happened yet.’

Wednesday missed out on signing Adam Le Fondre, with the Rotherham United hitman opting for a move to Championship club Reading, and Megson is keen to add more firepower to his squad.

Lualua started his career in England with Colchester United before Newcastle snapped him up. He went on to play for Pompey before having spells in Greece with Olympiakos, Qatar and Cyprus.
