Wednesday are in early discussions with midfielder Chris Sedgwick to make him Alan Irvine’s first summer recruit, according to reports today.

The Sheffield born winger has been tipped to become an Owl ever since it was revealed that his contract with Preston North End wouldn’t be renewed.

And it now looks like the deal has moved a step closer to becoming reality with Irvine said to be in discussions with Sedgwick’s agent to bring him to Hillsborough.

The 30-year-old made 228 appearances for North End in his six years at the club, and also played 244 times for Rotherham United, where he made his name in football.

Sedgwick could be the first of eight players – all thought to be on free transfers – to arrive at Wednesday in the close season as boss Irvine looks to build a squad capable of bouncing back to the Championship at the first attempt.
