Wednesday are lining up a bid for Hibernian striker Derek Riordan accoring to reports from BBC Scotland.

Riordan, 22, is out of contract with the Edinburgh side in October and has turned down their latest contract offer, looking certain to leave the club in the near future.

Wednesday failed in a £500k bid to bring former Kilmarnock forward Kris Boyd to Hillsborough earlier in the week, after the SPL top scorer chose boyhood club Glasgow Rangers as his destination.

The offer for Riordan is believed to be in the region of £200,000.

The Scotsman has bagged 46 goals in 83 league appearances for Hibernian, earning him an international cap for Scotland along the way.

The possibility of bringing such a great prospect with a formidable scoring record to Hillsborough would certainly bring some Christmas cheer to all Wednesdayites.

After the recent failed attempts of Nathan Tyson and Kris Boyd though, let’s not get our hopes up just yet…
