The magic of the FA Cup. Wednesday humbled away at Shrewsbury in a last minute 3-2 loss.

The Owls went into the half time period holding a 1-0 lead. A stunning free kick from Lewis McGugan on only his 7th start for the Owls this season, opened the scoring. McGugan found his free kick nestling into the back of the net, after the Shrews conceded the foul 35 yards out.

Wednesday never really got started in the second half and soon the home side had a scent of blood from the owls. Soon after, Akpa-Akpro fired the hosts a well deserved equaliser.

Another long range effort from Lewis McGugan saw the visitors restore their lead, some twenty minutes after the equaliser.

However, the Shrews performed a late push forward to play for the replay at Hillsborough and came through when Vincent Sasso conceded a penalty. Price did well get down to save Akpa-Akpro’s penalty but was left scratching his head at the Wednesday defence as Whalley headed in the rebound. Time for a nervey ending for both sides.

There was a breakthrough in the final minute of injury time as Grimmer headed to the back of the net. The last ditch effort saw Sheffield Wednesday’s hopes of another cup run were culled by League One Shrewsbury town.
