Wednesday could have a fifth new signing in place for this Saturday’s npower League One fixture at Leyton Orient.

Owls vice chairman Paul Aldridge has confirmed to the Sheffield Star that he’s expecting to start discussions with a player ‘in the next 24-48 hours’.

Boss Alan Irvine has outlined the players he wants to bring to Hillsborough in the January transfer window and Aldridge, appointed to his position by chairman Milan Mandaric last week, conducts the contract talks with players and agents to conclude a deal.

Wednesday have already bolstered their squad this month with the arrival of four players.

Reda Johnson, Michael Morrison, Gary Madine and Mark Reynolds have all arrived in S6 in recent weeks.

But Mandaric and Irvine are keen to bring at least six new players into the club to bolster their push for promotion to the Championship.

Aldridge refused to give any hints as to who the player was, but it’s understood Irvine is targeting a midfield player.

Keith Andrews, of Blackburn Rovers, has been one name loosely linked with a loan move to Hillsborough.

But, like the Madine transfer on Saturday, Wednesdayites may not know the target until a deal is completed.

As always, keep checking Vital Wednesday for all the latest transfer news this transfer window.
