A number of Wednesday’s fringe players staked their claim for a starting role at Bristol City on Saturday by featuring in the reserves’ 4-2 victory over Walsall this afternoon.

Frank Simek and Richard Hinds both featured for the full 90 minutes as they look be called upon by boss Brian Laws this weekend in light of some below-par performances of late.

Hinds did his chances no harm by also getting on the scoresheet, while Francis Jeffers kept up his claim for a spot in the starting eleven with a brace of goals.

Tommy Miller, another player under scrutiny by Wednesdayites, featured and also grabbed a goal to beat the League One side at Stocksbridge.

Etienne Esajas also featured, as did Sean McAllister, as Laws looked to make changes for the trip to Ashton Gate.
