Wednesdayites have snapped-up almost 6,000 tickets for this month’s Steel City derby – for the beam-back at Hillsborough

Hillsborough’s South Stand will be packed for the first Sheffield derby clash of the season – which takes place across the city at Bramall Lane a week on Sunday.

Owls fans wasted no time in selling out tickets for the away end at Bramall Lane as soon as they went on sale last month, and thousands more are expected at S6 to watch the game on three huge screens on the Hillsborough pitch.

It means there will be more inside Hillsborough for the beam-back than the average attendances of at least all but five clubs in npower League One.

The last time a beam-back was held for a Sheffield derby clash Wednesday ran out 2-1 winners thanks to goals from Tommy Spurr and Marcus Tudgay – prompting scenes of celebration for Owls fans both at Bramall Lane and Hillsborough.

Wednesday will be hoping for more of the same next week, and no doubt more beam-back tickets will be sold in just over a week before the big match.

Supporters are being held initially in the South Stand and the Grandstand will also be opened up if demand requires. Tickets to watch the game at S6 are priced at £10 for adults and £5 for concessions.
