Wednesday will face competition for the signature of on-loan Michael Johnson in the January transfer window after the player revealed he already has offers from elsewhere.

The experienced Derby defender has already revealed he’d love to stay at Hillsborough on a full transfer when his loan deal comes to an end, and Owls boss Brian Laws has also revealed his desire for Johnno to stay at S6.

But a full transfer won’t be as sraight forward as first though, with a number of rival clubs already approaching the defender over a full deal in light of his top-class performances in the blue and white stripes of late.

‘I’ve been asked whether I’m interested in signing a permanent contract. I’d be delighted,’ Johnson told the Sheffield Star.

‘I’ve received one or two offers from other clubs; I’ve told them I want to speak to Wednesday first. At a time when I was low at Derby, they came and gave me the chance to show what I can do.

‘I’ve had a decent few weeks here, so now a few clubs have expressed interest.’

The defender is currently in his second month on loan at Wednesday after failing to break in to the Derby side, despite being club captain at Pride Park last season, and will have the chance to take a third month when his current deal expires at the end of the month.

And Wednesday fans will be keeping their fingers crossed that the Owls can bag a deal with Johnson to see him become a fully fledged Owl in the January transfer window.
