Wednesday have today escaped any possible points deduction by the Football Association (FA) for including too many loan players in their squad for the clash with Stoke City.

There were fears that the Owls could have been slapped with a points decution for including a loan player too many in their squad for the 1-1 clash with Stoke City last month.

But the FA have instead decided against a points deduction, opting to stick with the precedent set when Leeds United came under a similar breaking of the rules, and fining the Owls £2,000.

Graham Kavanagh, Enoch Showunmi, Adam Bolder, Franck Songo’o, Ben Sahar and Bartosz Slusarski were all included in the squad – but only four actually took to the field during the clash with the then table-toppers.

The FA is set to inform all of its member clubs and make the decision public before the weekend matches.

And Wednesday won’t be making the same mistake again this season, with only five loan players on their books after striker Enoch Showunmi ended his unsuccessful loan stint at S6 by returning to Bristol City.
