Wednesday have drawn Premiership opposition in the third round of the FA Cup as Stuart Pearce’s Manchester City make the trip over the Pennines in January.

The tie will provide a stern test for Brian Laws in his first cup game in charge of the Owls – with a decent cup run the key to providing funds for new players at the end of the season.

And it will also pit Laws up against his former Forest team-mate on the weekend of January 6th.

He told the official SWFC website: ‘I played there last year and we gave a good account of ourselves. It’s a great draw against my old mucker Pearcey.’

‘It’s a chance to get through. Manchester City haven’t been travelling that well recently. All you can ask for is a home draw and that’s what we’ve got.’

Wednesday crashed out of the prestigious competition at the first stage last season as an in-form Charlton Athletic side left Hillsborough with their name in the hat for the fourth round following a 4-2 victory.
