Okay, I couldn’t resist the headline, but Wednesday have become only the second football club in the country to have a train named after them…

The First GBRf Class 66726 locomotive was unveiled at Sheffield Train Station today, named Sheffield Wednesday, in a move that will see the good name of the club travel up and down the country on a daily basis.

Only Premier League side Sunderland have had this honour before, with Wednesday becoming just the second club in the country to have their name on a train.

Wednesday chairman Lee Strafford was present at the unveiling of the nameplate this morning.

The naming came as a result of lifelong Wednesday fan Derek Sharpe being the recently retired chairman of W.H. Davies, the company that built the locomotive.

Not only is the idea a good, free bit of publicity for the club, but you never know…we might get a few extra trainspotters becoming fans of the Owls!
