Wednesday have confirmed the signing of Leicester City defender Michael Morrison for an undisclosed fee.

Morrison has signed a three-and-a-half year deal at Hillsborough after completing his medical yesterday and will be allocated squad number six.

The 22-year-old follows Plymouth Argyle defender Reda Johnson to Wednesday in the space of a week as Alan Irvine’s second signing of the January transfer window.

Irvine said: “He is player I have known for a long time. He is a good age at 22 and has a lot of experience for a young player.

“Michael has played mainly as a centre back but also at right back. He is a good defender who attacks the ball well, he is aggressive and mobile and a player who has excellent all-round potential.”

The former Cambridge United player wanted out of Leicester after boss Sven-Goran Eriksson failed to guarantee him regular first-team football at the Walkers Stadium.

More signings are set to follow as Owls chairman Milan Mandaric helps Irvine bolster his squad for a push for promotion from League 1 this season.
