Wednesday could be forced to enter the loan market for a new goalkeeper if they receive bad news regarding an injury to number one stopper Nicky Weaver.

Weaver was left out of the squad for last night’s 1-1 draw at Charlton Athletic, his former club, with Owls boss Gary Megson revealing that the stopper could be out for a long time.

The injury is understood to be to Weaver’s knee, and rumours suggest he could be sidelined for the remainder of the campaign.

The former Manchester City stopper will see a specialist this week and he, and the club, will be hoping for good news.

Anything else would be a big blow for Weaver, playing for his boyhood club, and the Owls in their bid for promotion from npower League One this season.

Richard O’Donnell played in his place last night, and has also made a number of appearances in cup competitions this season.

But there are still question marks over his experience at first team level, and should the news on Weaver be bad, Megson could well have to look to the loan transfer market to add a new number one to his ranks.

The club is expected to hear more news on Weaver’s injury before the end of the week.
