Wednesday officials have given the green light for tomorrow’s clash with Sunderland to go ahead despite recent adverse weather conditions across the country.

The Owls warned fans to keep checking the local media in case of any postponement at Hillsborough for tomorrow’s match with Roy Keane’s men – but intense work from the club’s groundstaff saw the pitch in a playable state on friday afternoon.

Head groundsman Steve Kiddy told the official SWFC site: ‘It’s perfectly playable at the moment. There is some rain forecast overnight but I think it will be fine unless we get a deluge.’

Wednesday will still be undergoing a pitch inspection at 9am on Saturday morning to avoid the disappointment of Owls fans travelling from afar or for the 6,000 travelling Sunderland fans – but the match is expected to go ahead barring a torrential downpour.
