Wednesday have been unsuccessful in their attempt to have the red cards given to Wade Small and Chris Brunt at the weekend withdrawn.

Owls boss Brian Laws insisted he would be appealing against both sendings off as the Owls fell to a 3-1 defeat against Coventry City at the Ricoh Arena at the weekend with just nine men for 50 minutes of the clash.

But the FA have been swift in their reply by rejecting both appeals – which were made on Monday morning and will have cost the club – after a meeting of the FA appeals board today.

The news means Wednesday will be without Wade Small for three matches – Cardiff City and West Brom at home and Leicester City away before returning for the away clash at Carrow Road against Norwich City on Saturday, 9th December.

Brunt will miss just the one match for ‘denying a scoring opportunity’ and will sit out for the crunch clash with league leaders Cardiff City this Saturday.

Laws has already revealed he will be looking to make loan signings this week to cover the suspensions.
