Owls boss Paul Sturrock has admitted his interest in highly-rated Norwich City midfielder Dickson Etuhu – but says his price-tag may be a stumbling block.

Sturrock has made it clear he wants to bring in an experienced midfielder into the Owls squad ahead of the 2006/07 season, and expressed his admiration for the former Manchester City man.

He told Norfolk based website EDP24: “I would be delighted to bring him to the club, but I believe he could cost a transfer fee of around £600,000 and that money is beyond us.”

Etuhu only signed a permanent contract with the Canaries in January after impressing while on loan at Carrow Road from Preston North End.

A fee of £450,000 saw the strong midfielder move south, and it’s unlikely Norwich boss Nigel Worthington would want anything less just five months after bringing him to the club.

The Algerian midfielder was tagged as the next Patrick Vieira while at Manchester City but failed to make the next step up at Premiership level. He was sold to Preston North End in 2002 and made 100 appearances before moving to the Canaries permanently in January.
