Wednesday fans who see their glass as half full are hard to come by – but Vital Sheffield Wednesday forum member optimisticowl has his say on the Owls’ current situation.
It now feels a million years ago that doom and gloom hung over us at the beginning of the season.
Someone on the Sky Sports panel said of us prior to the West Brom game ‘No team wants to play Sheffield Wednesday with the form that they are in’: it would have been somewhat different at the start of the season wouldn’t it?
I don’t anticipate a mass exodus from the club in the summer because the players tipped as prospective transfer targets all have one thing in common. They are all cast offs from other clubs and owe their current good fortune to Sheffield Wednesday. We of course have to be careful wages wise but I don’t think that we should spoil the ship for the want of a haporth of tar.
I noticed an air of togetherness last Friday that in my opinion has been a missing factor during much of this season. Richard Wood, Ian Turner and Chris Brunt looked like guest players from a top Premiership club, Brunt in particular held his cool magnificently when the nasties started.
I wonder if Brian Laws had a word in Deon Burton’s shell like to the tune of ‘When one of the other lot’s players jumps all over you in their penalty box, fall down you silly bugger’: the lad will learn. Other than that and Steve MacLean having a quiet game by his standards I couldn’t fault them.
It’s possible that we could win all of our remaining fixtures and still have insufficient points to gain a play off place, but what the hell, we can only try our best.
I am off on holiday for two weeks from this Saturday so will keep my fingers crossed.
The future is bright, in fact it’s blue and white!
