Sam Winnall has an uncertain future at Sheffield Wednesday and could be on his way out in January. The 28-year-old has struggled for playing time in 2019/20 and is out of contract next summer. Winnall can no longer get a game under Garry Monk and might have to seek an early exit rather than spend the next six months on the periphery running down his deal.

Should Sheffield Wednesday offer Sam Winnall a new deal?

The Englishman has made seven appearances in all competitions this season, racking up 250 minutes of football and scoring one goal. His last outing in a Wednesday shirt came in their 1-0 defeat to Hull City (October 1) and he’s been in and out of the matchday squad ever since.

Winnall has been an unused substitute in five of the Owls’ last nine league games and been omitted from the squad in the remaining four. Monk played the striker in four consecutive matches after being appointed manager in September, but Steven Fletcher, Atdhe Nuhiu and Fernando Forestieri have since kept him out of the team.

It remains to be seen which clubs would come in for the 28-year-old in January, but Wednesday will surely want to cash in rather than lose him for nothing in 2020, so they’ll be hoping for interest in the coming weeks.
