Things haven’t gone well for David Jones since he left Sheffield Wednesday last summer.

After being released last May, the 35-year-old signed a short-term deal with Oldham Athletic but didn’t impress enough to warrant a permanent stay, so he’s now a free agent in limbo.

Who did Sheffield Wednesday sign Josh Windass on loan from?

Jones joined Wednesday from Burnley in August 2016 and went on to make 66 appearances in all competitions, scoring one goal and making three assists.

As per Transfermarkt, the former England U21 international was a regular in 2016/17 (31 appearances) and 2017/18 (33 appearances) but fell down the pecking order in 2018/19 (two appearances).

His departure last summer wasn’t a surprise but Jones initially struggled to find a new club. The 35-year-old trained with Burnley to maintain his fitness but didn’t manage to sign for another side until the end of November.

Jones joined Oldham for two months and went on to make six appearances across the board. He only played 431 minutes from a possible 1170 and was released in January 2020 after struggling to perform.

The central midfielder is now looking for another club, but he’ll be forced to wait until the 2019/20 season officially comes to a close before he can get back out on the pitch again.
