Opinion: Sheff Wed should consider move for 27 y/o Everton man if Morgan Fox leaves

|

Sheffield Wednesday may be in need of another left-back this summer with Morgan Fox and Matt Penney both being out of contract and having failed to put pen to paper on an extension.

Fox has been in talks over a new deal since January while Penney is expected to be looked at by Monk when the season comes to a close, so Wednesday should consider a move for Luke Garbutt if either player departs.

Who did Sheffield Wednesday sign Josh Windass on loan from?

The 27-year-old is out of contract at Everton this summer and won’t be handed a new deal as he’s been on the periphery for many years. Garbutt joined the Toffees from Leeds United in 2009 and has gone on to make 12 appearances in all competitions.

His last outing in an Everton shirt came in May 2015, so there’s little chance he would be retained. Garbutt could be an asset for Wednesday, however, as he has plenty of Football League experience from his time out on loan.

The left-back has made 37 appearances for Cheltenham Town (League Two), 20 appearances for Colchester United (League Two), 26 appearances for Fulham (Championship), eight appearances for Wigan Athletic (Championship), 36 appearances for Oxford United (League One) and 30 appearances for Ipswich Town (League One).
