Opinion: Sheff Wed should consider 21 y/o Aston Villa man after Moses Odubajo’s comments

|

Moses Odubajo came under fire from Sheffield Wednesday supporters for his comments made on an Instagram Live video with Kevin Lisbie. He admitted losing his love for football which led to criticism from fans who now don’t believe he’s good enough to play for the Owls.

The 26-year-old has only made two league appearances in 2020, is out of contract in 2021 and was put up for sale in January, so his future may be somewhat uncertain. If Wednesday were considering replacing the 26-year-old, they may have to rely on loans and free transfers due to a lack of a budget.

Aston Villa’s James Bree might be an option for the Owls, as the 21-year-old has been loaned out to Ipswich Town (January 31, 2019 – May 31, 2019) and Luton Town (August 8, 2019 – May 31, 2020) in the last 18 months, so Wednesday may have a good chance of landing his signature next season.

Who did Sheffield Wednesday sign Josh Windass on loan from?

Bree has made 28 appearances in all competitions for Villa since joining from Barnsley in 2017, but his future is uncertain as he’s currently behind Frederic Guilbert and Ahmed Elmohamady in the right-back pecking order. He’s been a regular while on loan at Luton, so there’s no reason he can’t be valuable for Wednesday either if Odubajo was to be moved on.

Time will tell, however. Garry Monk has enough players to worry about without including the 26-year-old.
