Jack Lee may have an uncertain future at Sheffield Wednesday as he’s out of contract this summer and may not be handed an extension.
The 21-year-old is coming to the end of a two-year deal that he signed in 2018 and has only made two first-team appearances for the Owls in that time, so it’s hard to see why Wednesday would keep Lee.
The defender initially came to Sheffield from Sunderland for a trial in January 2015 and signed a professional contract in December. Lee impressed enough at youth level to sign a contract extension in 2018, but his career has stalled in the last two years.
As per Transfermarkt, his Wednesday debut came in their EFL Cup win over Sunderland (August 16, 2018) and his full debut & last first-team outing came in their EFL Cup defeat to Wolverhampton Wanderers (August 28). Lee’s made the matchday squad in the Championship five times but hasn’t been introduced from the bench.
Tom Lees, Julian Borner and Dominic Iorfa are ahead of the 21-year-old in the pecking order, so he doesn’t appear to have a future at Hillsborough. Lee will turn 22 in December and hasn’t played at senior level for 21 months, so why would Wednesday keep him?
