Opinion: Could Sheffield Wednesday lose 24-year-old in January?

|

Dominic Iorfa was recently named Sheffield Wednesday’s Player of the Month for November, winning 60% of the supporters’ vote, but could his upturn in form lead to interest from suitors in January?

The 24-year-old has impressed in recent weeks and delivered a number of Man of the Match displays last month, so Wednesday might have to fend off interest to keep Iorfa at Hillsborough.

Could Sheffield Wednesday lose Dominic Iorfa in January?

Yes

No

He’s made 15 Championship appearances this season, scoring and creating three goals. Iorfa was used as a right-back earlier in the campaign but he’s been outstanding playing through the middle.

The former England u21 international is dominant in the air (48 aerial duels won), combative in defence (tackle or interception every 30 minutes), takes no risks at the back (56 clearances) and provides protection to Wednesday’s goal (blocked 21 shots/passes/crosses).

Iorfa has also showcased an attacking threat when in possession (67% dribble success rate), so he brings a lot to the side. The 24-year-old has played every minute of every league game since late-August and should keep his place when Wednesday lock horns with Brentford on Saturday.

With so many qualities, it would be surprising if clubs weren’t paying an interest in January. Wednesday are unlikely to let him leave, however.
