Opinion: 3 Premier League players Sheff Wed could sign on loan when Jacob Murphy leaves

|

Jacob Murphy has impressed while on loan at Sheffield Wednesday since the turn of the year, but the 25-year-old will return to parent club Newcastle United when the season comes to a close.

Garry Monk doesn’t have the biggest for a lucrative replacement, so he may look in the loan market for a winger like Murphy. Who should Wednesday consider a move for?

Who did Sheffield Wednesday sign Josh Windass on loan from?

Harvey Elliot – Liverpool

The 17-year-old looks to have a bright future ahead of himself but is unlikely to get regular football at Anfield next season due to competition from Sadio Mane, Mohamed Salah, Xherdan Shaqiri and Takumi Minamino.

Elliot is a left-footed right-winger who could be granted a temporary move away from Liverpool to get more minutes at an easier level, so Wednesday shouldn’t rule out bringing him to Hillsborough.

Jota – Aston Villa

The 28-year-old could be on his way out of Villa as he’s struggled for form and playing time this season. He was linked with a loan move to Fulham in January but no deal materialised.

Jota has spent the majority of his career in the Championship and might be open to a return if it means more opportunities,  having only racked up 313 minutes of Premier League football.

The right-winger has made 144 Championship appearances, scoring 31 goals and making 22 assists, so he should be a shrewd signing if Wednesday made a move.

Demarai Gray – Leicester City

The 23-year-old would be an ambitious signing, as he may not be open to dropping down a division next season. Gray has amassed just 411 minutes of Premier League football, however, so he’s unlikely to have many top division clubs clamouring for his signature.

Having played five consecutive seasons in the Premier League, Gray may prefer to fight for his place in the final year of his contract, rather than be away from the King Power Stadium. Time will tell.
