Official: Sheffield Wednesday man ‘will be available’ to face QPR after successful appeal

|

Sheffield Wednesday have confirmed that Massimo Luongo ‘will be available’ to face Queens Park Rangers after a successful appeal. The 27-year-old was given a straight red card by referee Jared Gillett in Wednesday’s 5-0 defeat to Blackburn Rovers (January 18) for a challenge on Lewis Travers. The verdict has been overturned on review, however, so he’s free to face his former club.

Garry Monk’s men travel to face QPR in the FA Cup fourth round on Friday, having already beaten Brighton & Hove Albion 1-0 (January 4) to make it this far, but they’re not in the best form of late. The Owls have lost four of their last six games in all competitions, conceding 11 goals. QPR came out on top in their last head-to-head too, winning 2-1 at Hillsborough in August.

Nevertheless, Wednesday have already pulled off a Premier League scalp in the competition and beat Leeds United in their last away game, so Monk’s men should perform much better than they did previously. Luongo will be keen to get one over his old club too.
