Sheffield Wednesday confirmed the signing of Alessio Da Cruz on loan from Parma – their ninth acquisition of the campaign. The 23-year-old has made 18 appearances in all competitions this season, scoring and creating 13 goals, so he could be a good acquisition.
Wednesday desperately need more firepower. The Owls have lost five of their six Championship games while scoring one or less goals on four occasions. Steven Fletcher leads the scoring charts with 12 goals this season, but he could be out until March due to a knee injury.
Da Cruz can operate at left-wing, right-wing and centre-forward. And despite only turning 23 earlier this month, the Dutchman has led a nomadic career, playing for the likes of Ajax, Almere City, FC Twente, FC Dordrecht, Novara, Parma, Spezia Calcio and Ascoli.
Wednesday will be the ninth club he’s played for. Da Cruz will wear the No.38 shirt for the rest of the season. Some fresh blood might be what Garry Monk’s side need after slipping to 11th in the table. They have 42 points from 29 games and are now five points adrift of the playoffs.
