Sheffield Wednesday have confirmed that Luke Jackson, Luke Cox, Lewis Farmer, Charlie Reaney, Declan Thompson and Charles Hagan have ‘agreed professional contracts’ and will ‘step up’ from the U18s to the U23s next season. The move comes after Wednesday released Omar Damba, Jordan O’Brien, Fraser Preston, Jack Stobbs, Jack Lee, Connor Kirby, Joe West and Preslav Borukov from the reserves.
Jackson is an 18-year-old goalkeeper who joined the Owls from Huddersfield Town in 2018. Cox is an 18-year-old defender. Farmer is an 18-year-old attacking-midfielder who is described as ‘pacey’ and ‘strong with the ball at his feet’. Reaney will turn 19 in September and plays in midfield.
Thompson is an 18-year-old right-back who was signed from Stockbridge Park Steels. He’s described as an attacking player that has already impressed since his move to Wednesday. Hagan is an 18-year-old striker who joined from Chelsea and is highly-rated. He’s described as ‘pacey’ and good in ‘one-v-one situations’.
Wednesday U23s are currently ninth in the Professional Development League North with 24 points from 22 games. They’ve struggled for consistency this season, so the six new players will be in for a rude awakening.
