Official: Another Sheffield Wednesday midfielder is fit to face West Brom

|

Garry Monk revealed in Thursday’s press conference that Sam Hutchinson is available for selection ahead of Saturday’s meeting with West Bromwich Albion. The 30-year-old missed Sheffield Wednesday’s 2-2 draw with Swansea City with a calf injury but could return to the squad over the weekend.

Hutchinson has made 14 Championship appearances this season, scoring and creating two goals. As per WhoScored, the midfielder completes 82.6% of his 39.5 passes-per-game, won 19 aerial duels (59%), boasts a 71% dribble success rate, blocked 17 passes/shots/crosses, made 26 clearances and averaged a tackle (31) or interception (26) every 21 minutes.

Hutchinson’s last outing for Wednesday came in their 2-1 defeat to Blackburn Rovers (November 2), but he’s in contention of making his first start in nearly three weeks.

That being said, Monk isn’t short of options in midfield. The Owls manager has Barry Bannan, Kieran Lee, Adam Reach and Joey Pelupessy to choose from. Massimo Luongo has recently returned from injury too.

Against Swansea, Lee started alongside Bannan, so it remains to be seen whether Monk makes a change to his midfield on Saturday.
