It was a disappointing day for manager Steve Bruce on Sunday afternoon as we welcomed Queens Park Rangers to Hillsborough as Sheffield Wednesday closed out the 2018/19 Championship campaign.

With great form under Brucie following his arrival at the end of January, Wednesday’s far improved form and consistency deserted us on the final day as we fell to a 2-1 victory to the visitors. Had it not been for goalkeeper Keiren Westwood it could’ve been worse as well but the talking points from the game will be the two missed penalties out of three that were given across the 90 minutes.

Statistics website Whoscored weren’t very complimentary in their player ratings after that performance, as had we taken a point QPR would’ve understandably been gutted.

Westwood took Man of the Match with a rating of 8.29, boosted hugely by his penalty stop, and Joey Pelupessy put himself in second place with 7.41. That was the end of the seven plus scores though as we saw Michael Hector (6.54), Kieran Lee (6.51) and Marco Matias (6.50) completed the top five best performers on the day.

A big summer now but reason for confidence ahead of 2019/20.
