‘Needs dropping’ – some fans want 23-year-old axed by Monk after Sheffield Wednesday’s defeat

|

Jacob Murphy underperformed for Sheffield Wednesday in Saturday’s 2-1 defeat to West Bromwich Albion and was criticised by supporters on social media as a result. The 24-year-old has been a regular this season, but his form has been inconsistent and may lead to Garry Monk dropping him.

Murphy has made 15 appearances in all competitions, scoring two goals. He’s so far failed to make an assist in 2019/20, has registered only five shots on target and has created 10 chances. The former England u21 international failed to impress against West Brom too.

As per WhoScored, Murphy played for 90 minutes, made 44 touches, won one aerial duel, created one chance, had one shot, completed 70% of his 20 passes, whipped in five crosses, made one clearance, drew four fouls and made five successful dribbles.

The wide-man saw a lot of the ball but didn’t have an end product on the day. If Monk wants to replace Murphy from the first-team ahead of Wednesday’s meeting with Birmingham City, he could turn to Fernando Forestieri – the 29-year-old has contributed the same amount of goals as Murphy this season in far fewer minutes.
