We don’t want that pig, blunt, *&^% as OUR manager, not a chance! Not my words, but I’m guessing the words of quite a few Wednesdayites tonight…

Although still a long shot, Crystal Palace’s former Sheffield United manager, and fan, Colin…I mean Neil…Warnock, has been linked with the managerial hot seat at Hillsborough this week.

And today has seen the talk heat up, with Warnock not exactly playing down a potential move to the blue and white half of Sheffield in the national media.

Quite the opposite, in fact, with Warnock insisting the job is a great one to take on, heaping praise on the Owls, insisting we’re a big club and that we’ll turn things around before long.

This is where Vital Wednesday will probably see one of it’s most heated debates…

When Warnock’s name was mentioned I didn’t think really think twice about it – ‘no way’, ‘not a chance’, ‘no thanks’ was my initial reaction.

Probably like most Wednesdayites.

But after some consideration, I think if Wednesday managed to get Warnock as manager at S6, it’s be a great move.

First thing’s first.

Although he’s done a good job with Palace, and they’re having a few financial problems (aren’t we all!?), I don’t think he’ll come.

He seems midway through a job with Palace, and we all know he likes his time down in the South West of the country.

He’s likely to stick it out at Selhurst Park.

But if we could tempt him here, putting his United roots to one side, his attributes are near perfect for the kind of manager we’re craving at the moment to get us out of this mess.

He has desire, determination, and would surely fire up our current squad, who have little, if any, passion from what we’ve seen in the majority of matches of late.

His record too, at Bramall Lane, Palace, Plymouth, Huddersfield and Notts County, is superb in the Football League.

Experience? Check.

Good reputation in the game? Check, kind of…

I’d welcome his appointment if it came around.

I know a lot of you wouldn’t – and I understand that, too.

But given the position we’re in, and the manager’s that are available, he;s the best of the bunch that we could potentially get here at S6.

We all know he was quoted as saying that he’d love to take us over, spend all our money, and get us relegated.

Nobody should take that seriously, it’s banter.

If Warnock came here he’d have a job to do, arguably his biggest yet, and it’d be a challenge that he, as a man, would love to have, and succeed.

He didn’t exactly leave S2 in good spirits either, and he’d have plenty to prove to to those in high, and not so high, positions at the Lane.

I expect plenty will disagree with me, I expect the minority will agree, but Warnock would definitely be up there on my list of candidates.
