Wednesday completed a double signing yesterday, with Motherwell defender Mark Reynolds following Carlisle striker Gary Madine to Hillsborough.

Reynolds, 23, has been linked with the a move to the Owls throughout the January transfer window and Alan Irvine finally got his man yesterday for an undisclosed fee.

The Scot follows Michael Morrison and Reda Johnson as the third defender to put pen-to-paper on a deal with the Owls.

‘Mark is very quick and has played a lot of games for someone of 23-years-old. He can play at left back or centre back and will add more quality to our squad,’ Irvine told the official SWFC website.

‘He has represented Scotland through to Under-21 level and comes with glowing references from everyone that I spoke to.’

Reynolds came through to Motherwell Academy and had racked up an impressive 192 appearances for the SPL club since breaking through into the first team.

He has previously been linked with a move to Scottish giants Rangers and had attracted the interest of a host of English clubs before Wednesday snapped him up.

Reynolds is expected to go straight into the Owls squad who will face Leyton Orient away on Saturday.
