A NEW captain will lead Wednesday out at Spotland for their npower League One match against Rochdale tomorrow, according to new manager Gary Megson.

Megson will take charge of his first full match of the club tomorrow and is set to strip goalkeeper Nicky Weaver of the captaincy, and hand the armband to an outfield player.

Weaver has been Wednesday’s captain since the departure of previous skipper Darren Purse to Millwall last month.

But Megson is keen for his captain to be an outfield player, and will select the new skipper ahead of tomorrow’s game in Lancashire.

The decision is nothing against Weaver, according to Megson, who rates the Owls stopper as the best goalkeeper in the division.

Megson is unlikely to hand the armband to one of the new players that arrived at Hillsborough in the January transfer window.

Striker Clinton Morrison and midfielder James O’Connor, who captained the side in Weaver’s absence on Saturday, are understood to be amongst the favourites for the role.
